All life has value and purpose, including trees. This purpose doesn’t have to end when a tree is cut down. It can be transformed! Along with a new shape comes new purpose and new life. My Neighbor’s Tree values life both before and after the felling of trees. We want to offer options that continue a purposeful life for every tree.
Reducing and eliminating waste is a primary goal at My Neighbor's Tree Woodshop. From raw timber, to bark, to shavings, to scraps; we do our best to find uses for tree materials that would normally be considered waste. We have created pathways in our garden using the striped bark, donated shavings to community gardens for mulch, and even converted resin into pine salve!
Nature is imperfect. Removing all imperfections is impossible, but also detrimental to the artwork itself. Knots can be challenging to work with, but often create the most interesting pieces. Cracks can be a focal point for the eye to run along. Being out of round, warped, or bowed can add dimension and new dynamic to a piece. We embrace imperfection by guiding and emphasizing its uniqueness, preferring art over perfection.
